Newlife
It was only natural that this uniquely designed Scandinavian style up-cycle home should be shared. The home evolved over 8 years and was the lovechild of architect Alex Symes. His motto “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” has allowed him to create with a new perspective in reusing and recycling building materials in a quirky, slightly off-kilter home. Alex’s philosophy and dedication has created a one of a kind abode, and the new custodians have now made it available for you to enjoy.
Some have suggested staying in up-cycle house is like being in an artwork and you can begin to feel this on your decent down the quirky entry stairs to the even more quirky front entrance. Pushing back the airlock door reveals the true front door, to enter you roll the door across the entrance to reveal the mosaic floor created from tiles in different sizes, colours and shapes, no need for floor rugs here as these would only distract from its artistic appeal. Everywhere you look are recognisable building materials which will surprise you in the way they have been utilized to a new use or feature. Out the back is a fire pit where you can sit around with a wine in hand, warming fire crackling and enjoy some great conversations.
Up-cycle house is not your ordinary holiday getaway in the Blue Mountains, it is a chance to experience a very distinctive and respectful to the environment home in one of the most popular Blue Mountains towns…. Blackheath.
So when you next think of staying here do as the architect has and think outside the square for your next holiday.
